If you haven’t seen the red carpet photos of Angelina Jolie during the2012 Academy Awards, then chances are, you’ve been hiding under a rock. The sultry Hollywood actress turned up at the Oscars wearing a classy black velveteen Versace dress with an eye-popping thigh-high slit, making her the instant talk of the Twitterverse and virtually taking over every other social media, blog, and news site for a time period.
But the radars wouldn’t have picked it up as much if Jolie didn’t know how to strut her stuff. Browse through her Oscar 2012 pictures and you’ll see her purposely jutting out right leg in every shot. Granted, Jolie gained some criticism for the leggy display, but some entrepreneurial wisdom can be gleaned here: How do you steal the show from the competition and make sure that the public takes notice? Make your business stand out.
Be vain
Much has been said about vanity and its negative consequences. The most well-known moral compass might be the Greek myth of Narcissus, a hunter who fell in love with his own reflection and stared at it until he died.
There are times though that you just have to be vain. That is, you have to love your product or else, your belief and passion in it will just fizzle out. A good reason to put up a business is to sell a product you believe in and share it with your target market, not just for the love of money.
Another reason for having some form of vanity is ensure that you’re promoting your business on all possible fronts. Capitalize on traditional advertising if you have the money to spend. If you don’t, the easiest and most affordable way is to market via the Internet.
Get engaged
That said, you definitely have to engage your public! The Internet is your best friend for affordable and effective advertising. Get on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. But don’t just add people to your friends list and leave it at that. You have to keep the conversation flowing. The way to do this would be through:
- Jazzing up your web pages
- Generating interesting and/or helpful content like blog posts, videos, and status messages
- Leaving thoughtful responses to comments
- Keeping VIP lists on Twitter and Facebook to sift through the most important “friends” you have
Choose a number… but not just any number!
Having a toll free number is the best way to encourage customers to call you. Not only is it free for customers to call, but also very easy to recall, especially if you’re using a vanity number.
In the days of medieval telephony, vanity numbers used to be exclusively affordable to big enterprises; but not anymore. You can choose from a number of VoIP providers: Skype, RingCentral, Google Voice, and Vonage are only a few. For telephone features that can rival any enterprise PBX, you can get a subscription to toll free numbers from cloud-based providers like RingCentral phone system . If you need fewer features, you can also route a toll free vanity number to Google Voice and use the basic GV functionalities such as voicemail, call blocking, and personalized greetings.
